There is a terrifying thing about desire.

It rarely destroys people suddenly.

It consumes them slowly.

One appetite at a time.

One compromise at a time.

One fascination at a time.

And eventually, what began as consumption becomes formation.

That is the danger of this generation.

Not merely that we are distracted.

But that our desires are being discipled by things incapable of producing life in us.

Many people today cannot sit in silence for ten minutes without reaching for stimulation.

Not because they are evil.

Because they are overfed and spiritually starving.

And the frightening thing about appetite is that whatever consistently captures your attention eventually begins shaping your affection.

Then your affection starts aiming your direction.

And your direction determines who you become.

This is why Paul says:

“Set your affection on things above…”

Heaven and earth are fighting over your gaze.

Over your hunger.

Over your inward world.

Because eventually, what you repeatedly behold becomes what forms you.

There is a false fire that consumes people through lust, greed, attention, entertainment, validation, and endless noise.

But there is also a holy fire.

A consuming fire.

One that does not destroy your calling, but purifies you for it.

The fire did not destroy Isaiah.

It made him sendable.

And perhaps the deepest question is not:
“Are you hungry?”

But:
“What has your hunger?”

Do not let a false fire consume the person God called you to become.
